Sign up for Share the Bounty…

The Food Insecurity Task Force is currently planning our FOURTH year of Share the Bounty. Last year, we were able to collect over 33,000 pounds of fresh produce for the Hunger Task Force distribution. With your help we hope to have a similarly successful year in 2013.

We’ll need 2 or 3 volunteers from CSOA on designated days to help collect produce at the Onalaska Farmers Markets on Sunday mornings. We are picking up Sundays as churches cover Saturdays for our synagogue. All the job requires of you: that you explain our program to interested shoppers and accept their produce donations.

Sign up below, indicating date and time (in the comment section below):

Sunday, June 30  – Onalaska Festival Foods parking lot
          8 a.m. – 10 a.m. (2 people)
          10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (2 people)

Sunday, July 7 – Onalaska Festival Foods parking lot
          8 a.m. – 10 a.m. (2 people)
          10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (2 people)

Sunday, September 8 – Onalaska Festival Foods parking lot
          8 a.m. – 10 a.m. (2 people)
          10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (2 people)

Here are some other ways you can help:

(1) You can plant extra rows of produce in your home garden to share with community members who may not have easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables. That home-grown produce can be brought directly to the Hunger Task Force warehouse (now on Clinton Street) or to our Share the Bounty table at the farmers markets. We have a table is set up every Saturday from 8 – noon in the parking lot at State and 4th Street in La Crosse or every Sunday morning from 8 – 1 p.m. in the Festival Foods parking lot in Onalaska.

(2) If you’re not a gardener, you can still contribute to the program by purchasing produce at the farmers markets for your own family as well as buying extra items to share with others. All you have to do is bring the purchases you want to donate to the AMOS’ Share the Bounty table. We’ll make sure it gets to the Hunger Task Force. In this way, we hope to support the local growers.

The 33,000 pounds of produce we collected last year were distributed to food pantries and to members of our community who might otherwise not have access to fresh and locally grown garden produce. With your help, we hope to have another successful year!
