Mireille “Mary” Rostad: 1924 – 2011

On May 21st, CSOA’s Holocaust Remembrance honoree Mary Rostad (right), and Darryle Clott (2008 honoree) posed by the Tree of Life which bears a special recognition leaf for both women. Mary’s leaf reads: “Mireille Broullard Rostad, Resister, Witness and Teacher. ‘Do not stand idly by’ Lev. 19:16.” Mary passed away on October 13 at the age of 87. “May the memory of the righteous be a blessing.”

AMOS Update

CSOA continues to be a congregation member of AMOS (Advocating, Mobilizing, Organizing in Solidarity), and on Sunday, November 20, five CSOA families attended AMOS’s fourth anniversary celebration at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. The theme of the dinner, in a talk by LaDonna Redmond, who is from the Institute for Agricultural Trade Policy, was “Food + Justice = Democracy.” AMOS is involved with food insecurity, community clergy caucus, healthcare access, restorative justice, Hmong community advocacy issues, and the winter warming center at First Baptist Church on Main Street and West Avenue. Many CSOA families are involved with social action themselves, but if you have an issue that could be a congregation activity, please contact Richard Strauss.

Greg Wegner Honored

Greg Wegner, was chosen as Wisconsin’s Professor of the Year of 2011 and participated in an awards ceremony on November 17 in Washington, D.C. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education sponsor the annual award. For the past generation, Wegner has worked tirelessly on behalf of Holocaust Education locally, nationally, and internationally. We salute Greg’s commitment to excellence.
