High Holiday Information

“If I am not a member of CSOA but would like to attend High Holiday services, how do I do this?”

CSOA has never turned anyone away from praying with us based on an ability to pay.  The High Holidays are no exception.  University students may attend services free of charge.  Out-of-towners holding a membership letter from their home congregations may also attend free of charge.  A CSOA membership includes free High Holiday seats for immediate family.  CSOA members hosting out-of-town family or friends are asked to contribute a flat $100 for their guests.  Non-members are asked to contribute $100 per person and may pay by check.

Yom Kippur Break Fast – Prepayment appreciated – RSVP here.

CSOA’s annual break fast will be held in the evening on Wednesday, October 12 after Yom Kippur services.  Please respond by Friday, October 7th.  As we do not collect any money at the end of Yom Kippur, we ask that you pre-pay by sending a check to Sara Levenstein at the synagogue:  $9.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under 12. Your check should be payable to the Jewish Women’s League (JWL).

Bring non perishable groceries for Operation Isaiah

“This is my chosen fast…Share your bread with the hungry, take the homeless into your home, clothe the naked when you see her/him, do not turn away from people in need.”

Isaiah Chapter 58:6-7 from the Haftarah (prophetic selection) of Yom Kippur morning.

Please bring a non-perishable food on either day of Rosh Hashanah or before Kol Nidre for Operation Isaiah, an annual initiative to alleviate hunger in La Crosse through our local food shelter.  Food will be collected on any day that is not Shabbat (or Yom Kippur) throughout the Sukkot holiday.

Like Chanukah, Sukkot has unique Mitzvoth you can perform at home.

Order a family lulav and etrog set of for daily blessing.  Purchase an easy-to-assemble, kosher Sukkah in a variety of sizes.  Many options are only a “Google” search away.

Religious School

Our Hebrew School and Sunday School begins after Labor Day.  Our wonderful teachers and teen teacher/tutors look forward to providing a rewarding year for our students in Kindergarten through High School.
