Today is October 23, 2017; the
Congregation Sons of Abraham is committed to the concept of Tikkun Olam–literally, “repairing the world”–making the world a better place. To that end, we support various programs for the greater good.
We are a member of La Crosse’s interfaith alliance of congregations and people, CCFA-Compassonate Community Faith Alliance, whose passion for community justice is rooted in diverse faith and justice traditions in Wisconsin’s Seven Rivers Region. Formed in 2016 to address local concerns, CCFA has several legacy projects that were operating in La Crosse for eight years through AMOS, which has since dissolved. You can visit the CCFA website from this link
HELPING OUT AT THE JAIL WITH THE CHILDREN: Maureen Freedland wishes to share that the jail is looking for volunteers to give some time by reading and playing with young children while their parents visit their loved ones (via video screen) in the jail waiting area. Visiting hours are on Tuesday and Thursday nights, 6:00 to 7:45 p.m. The time commitment is once a month for under two hours. This gives the parents privacy and an opportunity for a less stressful visit. If you are interested, please contact Maureen Freedland or Dee Paqué (788-3620 or email@example.com) for more information.
DELIVERING MEALS TO SHUT-INS: Mobile Meals of La Crosse prepares meals for elderly and disabled every day of the year. However, they need volunteer drivers to deliver this important cargo. You can volunteer to deliver meals for a day or a week or whenever you can; just call Melissa Greco (608-784-4623) or email her if you would like to or if you have questions about the program. (You can learn about the program at this link.)
